The needle, the thread and the paraikete with Frances Goulton

Practice Foundations: June 2024

This session explores the art of resistance using blankets, threads, and needles to convey important stories. Frances Goulton shares some of those stories and then discusses the threads of her work - whānau, hapū, and iwi. She invites you to consider what symbols you would use to tell your story using the thread, needle, and blanket/paraikete.

This wānanga is a conversation featuring:

Frances Goulton (Ngāti Ruamāhue/Whangaroa), Director of Aronui Limited, a research and innovative solutions development company offering expertise in education, social science research with indigenous populations, and indigenous knowledge, creativity and lift.

Sophia Beaton (Kai Tahu, Kati Māmoe), Practice & Development Lead at Healthy Families, with over 10 years of experience as a design/project lead and community development practitioner in government, local government, and the not-for-profit sector.
