Flipping the script on top-down policy making: exploring a place-based systems learning approach

Creative Bureaucracy Festival Digital Kick-Off Day, April 2025

This webinar was part of the Creative Bureaucracy Festival Digital Kick-Off Day held on 13 March 2025.

In this webinar, The Lab introduces Niho Taniwha, a place-based systems learning approach developed through our work alongside whānau, hapori and other partners.

Niho Taniwha aims to help shift public sector commissioning, policy and capability towards 'bottom-up' ways of working. Niho Taniwha centres mātauranga Māori and indigenous ways of knowing, in combination with western knowledge and the lived experience of whānau and hapori.

This webinar shared the key dimensions and practices of Niho Taniwha and examples of how it has been applied. Participant also had the opportunity to engage with core aspects of the framework and connect it to their own contexts.
